News flash! Carl Trueman, my favorite celebrity, American Evangelical’s Iconized Iconoclast, has blasted conferences that use celebrities as bait and everything else American. He’s the guy, by the way, that once wrote a scathing post on why people shouldn’t blog or read blogs on his, um, blog. And taking advantage of American tolerance for people getting rich off of anti-Americanism, he incessantly rips on American Evangelicalism while collecting his check in US Dollars. So, besides being one of the most inconsistent blokes I know, I love to read his posts on Reformation 21.
Phil Gons has collected the push and pushback between Carl Trueman and Thabiti Anyawabile, something both humorous and instructive. I kind of lean toward Trueman’s take, but see Thabiti’s point as well.
Phil Gons asks some good questions. Check out his site.

Some with a narrow agenda against IFB would have you think that the only people in the world that promote spanking with words like “whipping” and “beating” are the Independent Fundamental Baptists that were the focus of Elizabeth Vargas’ 20/20 last week. This is a stereotype that is unfair. I’ve made myself clear about spanking. I do not endorse the “whip you kid” rhetoric whether it comes from the right or the left. It’s naive, however, to think it’s only a white evangelical problem. Interestingly, I preached a message on the topic the Sunday prior to the ABC 20/20, having no idea that spanking was going to be discussed nationally a few days later as if IFB are the only champions of spanking.
